When was the last time you did something you really wanted to do that aligned with all your values? Writing a book, learning how to meditate, getting up earlier, going for a run, changing the world? (oh… sorry… those are my ones).
Until recently I did none of these things. It was never the right time.
Then I realised that it will never be the right time. There will never be a stretch of uninterrupted months long enough to write a masterpiece. There’s unlikely to be a morning when I don’t want to hit snooze at least five times before getting out of my warm bed. I will never enjoy heading off for a run on a dark, wintry morning.
Waiting for the right time to do something is an excellent way of never doing it.
So maybe not being ‘ready’ is the whole point. You want to do something long before you can possibly be any good at it. I was a rubbish pet owner before I got a dog. I was an utterly clueless business owner until I started a business. I was a non-writer until I started posting what I wrote every day.
Everything you really want to do is your heart calling you to adventure. And it doesn’t really care how successful you are. Going on the adventure is what counts. Doing something that scares you, that will bring out in you qualities you didn’t know you had… but only if you start.
So write that blog post. Put on those running shoes. Get that sleepy butt out of bed at the first alarm ring. Don’t wait for the right time. Start today. Start now.
Start before you’re ready.
